Oregon High School Mock Trial Competition

Oregon has been participating in the National High School Mock Trial Competition (NHSMTC) since 1987, and Civics Learning Project is proud to be the state coordinator for Oregon’s competition.

2024-2025 Mock Trial Season Dates

September 5, 2024 – Mini Mock Case Release (Access Mini Mock Case Here)

  • TYPO CORRECTION: Hammond bought the zoo in 2012. But in Hammond’s affidavit, p. 17, it says 2002. It should read “2012”

September 6, 2024 – Mini Mock registration opens (CLOSED as of 10/18/24)

September 27, 2024 – Mock Trial registration opens (CLOSED as of 12/17/24)

October 18, 2024 – Mock Trial Competition Case Release (Download Season’s Case)

October 26, 2024 – Mini Mock Event – Southern Oregon (St. Mary’s School, Medford)

November 2, 2024 – Mini Mock Event – Metro/Northwest (Multnomah County Courthouse)

November 14, 2024 – Mock Trial Season Kickoff Event (virtual)

January, 2025 – Mock Trial Teach/Coach/Team PROcess Training [date TBA]

January, 2025 – Mock Trial Judge PROcess Training [date TBA]

February 22, 2025 – Mock Trial Regional Competitions (Eastern, Southern, and S. Willamette Valley Regions)

March 1, 2025 – Mock Trial Regional Competitions (Central, Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington County Divisions)

March 15-16, 2025 – Oregon High School Mock Trial State Competition (Portland)

May 8-11, 2025 – National High School Mock Trial Competition (Phoenix, AZ)

Oregon High School Mock Trial Competition Basics:

Registration Guidelines

Please have ONE person (a teacher or coach) register per team.

You will need the following information to register:
    • Team School
    • Team School’s Address
    • Team School’s County
    • Team School District
    • Primary Team Contact Person (Name, Address, Email, Phone)
    • Names of all Team Attorney or other Coaches
    • Number of students on team
    • Registration Fee (waived for first time teams)
  • Starting in late January, Civics Learning Project hosts a Mock Trial Q&A page where team coaches can ask questions, get clarifications about the case, and read weekly announcements from CLP. Any stipulations made on the Q&A page supersede those in the originally published case.
  • The Oregon High School Mock Trial Regional Competitions occur around the state in February/March.
  • Winners from the Regional/Divisional Competitions advance to the State Competition held in early March.
