2020 We the People Oregon Regional Hearings

 

Regionals Information for Teams:

Date: Saturday, January 11, 2020

Where: Lake Oswego High School, 2501 Country Club Rd., Lake Oswego, OR 97304

Team Arrival Time: Any time after 9:15am

Team Room assignments will be shared with teams prior to the date

New This Year:

Based on a process of collaboration with teams over the last year, the format of Oregon’s Regional Hearings will be new this year in 3 ways:
      1. Regionals will now be on a SATURDAY
      2. Regionals will feature TWO rounds so that teams have a chance to really show their hard work over the previous semester
      3. Regionals will not necessarily ask the same question # in each unit round (coming rounds will not know which question to expect, so that the first round is not the only team to experience the anticipation!)

 

2020 Regionals Schedule:

9:15am            Teams & supporters may start arriving

9:50am            Round 1 Begins: Welcoming Remarks in each Hearing Room

10:00am                      Hearing 1

10:20am                      Hearing 2

10:40am                      Hearing 3

11:00am                      Hearing 4

11:20am                      Hearing 5

11:40am                      Hearing 6

12:00 – 1:00      Lunch Break (schools responsible to bring/provide lunch for themselves)

1:10pm          Round 2 Begins: Welcome Remarks in each Hearing Room

1:20pm                        Hearing 1

1:40pm                        Hearing 2

2:00pm                        Hearing 3

2:20pm                        Hearing 4

2:40pm                        Hearing 5

3:00pm                        Hearing 6

3:20 – 3:35pm          Clean up Rooms and head to Auditorium

3:45pm                       Awards Ceremony in School Auditorium

 

A Program will be sent out to teachers prior to the Regionals so teams know in which order their units will be testifying.

 

Hearing Format:

Judges introduce themselves / Students introduce themselves         1 minute

Judge reads question                                                                                                 1 minute

Student Prepared Response                                                                                   4 minutes (timed by official timer)

Judge/Student Follow up Question & Response Time                               6 minutes (timed by official timer)

Judge Feedback & Commendations                                                                  3 minutes (1 minute each)

Judges score and travel to next hearing                                                          5 minutes
