The Opening Statement is the first time the jury will hear the story of this case. It is the opening statement that will give the details from the beginning to the end, introduce the witnesses, explain the circumstances of the case and tell your side of the story.
Your opening statement must tell the story of the case but with a bias. The idea is not to just string the facts together, but instead to paint a picture that captivates the audience and helps the members of the jury vividly see what happened in their minds. The opening statement ties together this story and emphasizes your side’s case theme, over and over again.
