Civics Learning Project is honored to be a partnering organization with the Multnomah County Courthouse in their Youth Mural Project. The purpose of this project is to engage the youth of Multnomah County, celebrate the opening of the new central courthouse, and create a visual representation of the aspirations for the court system, from the perspective of our young people. Those aspirations will be reflected in a collection of murals that will be displayed as part of the early-October opening of the new central courthouse at least through the end of 2020.
We are now seeking submissions from young artists to represent Civics Learning Project in this installation.
Civics Learning Project Submission Guidelines:
- Open to Multnomah County residents grades K-12.
- Submissions must include “Civics Learning Project” and our logo in the design.
- Art should focus on our 2020-21 theme: Community, Collaboration, Courage; and relate to civic engagement.
- Art may be any medium that is replicable in a two dimensional format (drawing, painting, collage, words, photography, digital design, etc.); original submissions will be enlarged and re-created by a professional muralist onsite.
- Students may work individually or in a group on concept and design.
- Students age 16 and older* are eligible to receive a $200 stipend if their work is selected for the final project.
- Submissions become property of Civics Learning Project, and may be used in future digital or print communications, with full attribution.
- Submission due date: Monday, September 14, 2020
- Notification of final Civics Learning Project decision: September 17, 2020

* The funding source for the stipend requires any recipients to be 16 or older. Civics Learning Project is not providing this stipend. If the selected submission is a group project, each eligible student will receive a stipend.
